Description

Tecline LightJet Fins – Negative Buoyancy | Graphite

The same JET-derived blade that made the LightJet a favourite for travel and recreational diving, now ballasted for divers who work in a drysuit. Tecline LightJet Negative fins keep the short, stiff, high-thrust profile of a classic technical fin, but sink instead of float – between 275 g and 300 g negative per fin in the water, depending on size.

Why negative fins?

A drysuit and a thick undersuit trap air in the legs and boots. That air migrates to the feet, lifts them, and forces you to fight for horizontal trim on every dive. Negatively buoyant fins counteract that lift at the exact point where it happens.

  • Stable horizontal trim without adding ankle weights
  • Cleaner frog kick, back kick and helicopter turns – the blade stays where you put it
  • Less silting in wrecks, quarries and low-visibility UK sites, because you are not correcting floaty feet with your fin tips
  • Potentially less lead on the belt once the ballast is where it actually does the work

Built from TPV, not classic rubber

The blade is moulded from Thermoplastic Vulcanisate (TPV) – a flexible, durable material produced from recycled feedstock and itself 100% recyclable. It gives the LightJet a more forgiving, responsive blade than heavy moulded rubber, while keeping the vented JET-style geometry that transfers power on the down stroke and releases water cleanly on the recovery.

Key features

  • Technical JET-style performance with recreational-fin comfort
  • Negatively buoyant – purpose-built for drysuit diving
  • Ergonomic open-heel foot pocket, sized for drysuit boots and rock boots
  • Robust stainless steel spring straps fitted as standard – fast, glove-friendly donning and doffing
  • Heel loop for shore entries and boat ladders
  • Hanging holes in the blade for storage, transport and drying
  • Graphite finish – low-key, non-reflective, and it hides quarry silt

Ideal for

  • ✔️ Drysuit diving with thick undersuits and dry gloves
  • ✔️ UK inland sites and cold-water shore diving
  • ✔️ Wreck and low-visibility diving where trim and silt control matter
  • ✔️ Divers building towards technical training who want fins that reward propulsion technique
  • ✔️ Anyone currently diving with ankle weights and looking to get rid of them

Technical specification

Material: Thermoplastic Vulcanisate (TPV), made from recycled materials, 100% recyclable
Strap system: Stainless steel springs (included)
Design: Open heel, ergonomic foot pocket
Buoyancy: Negative
Colour: Graphite

Weight per fin (including spring)

Size Weight on the surface Weight underwater (negative)
S/M 1.11 kg 275 g
L 1.40 kg 285 g
XL 1.54 kg 300 g

Figures are per single fin. A pair therefore provides roughly 550–600 g of negative ballast at the feet.

Size guide

Size Foot pocket depth Foot pocket width Foot pocket height Total fin length Fin width
S/M 23.5 cm 9.5 cm 7.5 cm 52 cm 21 cm
L 24.5 cm 10.5 cm 8 cm 53.5 cm 23 cm
XL 25.5 cm 11 cm 8.5 cm 55.5 cm 24.5 cm

Foot pocket dimensions are internal. Measure your drysuit boot or rock boot – not your shoe size – and allow a little room for a thick sock or a heated undersuit.

Negative or positive – which LightJet do I need?

Same blade, same foot pocket, same springs. The difference is ballast:

  • Negative (graphite) – drysuit diving, thicker undersuits, cold water, wrecks, trim-focused diving in the UK.
  • Positive – wetsuit diving, warm-water travel, drysuit with a thin undersuit, and lighter baggage.

Not sure which way to go? Talk to us – we dive both versions in UK conditions and will tell you honestly which one suits your setup.
