Cave DiverEquipment Check

Before we set a date, I need to know what you already own so I can arrange the rest. Work down the list and mark each item Have it, Need it or Not sure. Add a note on anything worth flagging — brand, hose length, condition, a question. Then hit send at the bottom.

The kit list

14 items. Nothing here is optional unless it says so.

  1. 01

    Dual cylinders

Sidemount or twinset — whichever you dive day to day is fine. You need two sets to keep the logistics simple: that way we are not waiting on fills between dives. If the second set needs to be sidemount, say so — I have spares you can use.

    Second set available from me
  2. 02

    Two independent regulator sets

First and second stages, fully independent. One second stage on a 2.1 m (7 ft) long hose, the other on a short hose with a bungee necklace.

  3. 03

    Buoyancy device with power inflator

Wing and harness suited to your cylinder configuration.

  4. 04

    Exposure suit

Appropriate for the dive site and planned runtime. Undersuit included.

  5. 05

    Mask and fins

A spare mask is required, not optional — bring two masks. The back-up lives in a pocket, so make sure it is one you can actually dive with.

    Two masks required
  6. 06

    Two line cutting devices

Line cutter, shears or knife — two of them, stowed where you can reach both.

  7. 07

    Three battery powered lights

One primary and two back-ups, each with burn time to cover the planned dive.

  8. 08

    Safety reels or spools

Carrying a minimum of 37 m (125 ft) of guideline.

  9. 09

    Primary reel for the team

Length to suit the intended dive. I provide this for the course — mark “Have it” only if you already own one and want to use it.

    Supplied by instructor
  10. 10

    Dive computer plus back-up

Two computers, or one computer and a back-up timing device with tables.

  11. 11

Slate or wet notes with a pencil

For the plan, gas figures and anything you need to pass on underwater.

  12. 12

    Five directional line arrows

Standard cave arrows for marking your way out.

  13. 13

    Five non-directional markers (cookies)

Personal markers, ideally identifiable as yours.

  14. 14

    Jump and gap spools

Reels or spools with enough guideline for planned jumps and gaps — 15 m is the usual working length.
